This ancient Egyptian scarab is a lovely mottled garnet which has aged beautifully over the millennia. It is mounted in 18K gold so that it can be worn without damaging the stone. Garnets were valued throughout all periods of Egyptian history for their deep rich red color, being carved into scarabs, amulets and beads. Red garnet necklaces adorned the necks of Egypt’s pharaohs, and were entombed with their mummified corpses as prized possessions for the afterlife. This scarab has been dated to the 12th-17th Dynasties/Second Intermediate Period (1991-1551 BC).
The handmade 18″ necklace was created using 18K gold wire, with modern garnets chosen to match the color of the ancient scarab.
